Year-round on Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Bowling Green Greenmarket is available on Broadway at Battery Place in Lower Manhattan.
The Bowling Green Greenmarket brings fresh offerings from local farms to Lower Manhattan’s historic Bowling Green Plaza. This twice-a-week, year-round market is available to neighbors, commuters, and visitors from around the world to stop by and enjoy. Attendees can load up on the season’s freshest fruit, vegetables, plants, and breads, and anything else delicious the Lower Manhattan market has to offer.
Native Staten Islander and Manager of the Bowling Green Greenmarket Nan Smith believes in shopping, chopping, cooking and blending up nutritious dishes made with local nourishing food. Smith has religiously taught others to do the same since 2011 when she graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
Farmers that attend year-round include the Body & Soul Bakery, from Kings Country, N.Y., that sells vegan and gluten-free baked goods and prepared foods, as well as Meredith’s Bakery that offers baked goods from Ulster County, N.Y.
Besides the wonderful and fresh food that the Greenmarket has to offer, they also offer regular calendar events including cooking demos, seasonal celebrations, and family friendly activities.
Warmer weather is arising and the wonderful thing about this market is that you don’t have to wait until the weekend on Sundays to get the freshest produce Downtown. In fact, it gets even better. The 2015 schedule changes just a little bit when Thanksgiving week begins to roll around. The market will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from Nov 24-26 so you can create your Thanksgiving dinner with only the freshest ingredients.
The Bowling Green Greenmarket does accept cash, EBT/Food Stamps, Debit/Credit, WIC Vegetable & Fruit checks and FMNP coupons. If anyone should have any questions please visit grownyc.org.
